這項調查是在網路上進行，有2,036人做回應。調查顯示，56%的美國成人認為，在第一次辯論，希拉蕊的表現優於共和黨候選人川普；只有26%的人認為川普表現比較好。
在認為希拉蕊贏得辯論的受訪者中，有85%是民主黨員，22%是共和黨員。
美國總統大選辯論傳統上被認為是對候選人表現及政策的重要考驗。希拉蕊和川普被稱為史上最不受歡迎的總統候選人，她們利用26日辯論的機會，設法說服選民支持。根據調查，26日的電視辯論有高達8,400萬收視觀眾。
在辯論結束後，兩位候選人都聲稱自己獲勝。
川普28日在愛荷華州康瑟爾崖(Council Bluffs)一場造勢大會中表示：「每一個線上民調都顯示，我贏了。」而希拉蕊競選陣營的發言人佛格森(Jesse Ferguson)則表示，希拉蕊明顯贏得辯論。他說，川普沒有做準備，顯得不安，而且想法支離破碎。
但根據調查，可能在11月8日大選日前往投票的選民中，只有34%的人表示，辯論讓他們轉而改變對希拉蕊有正面評價；有19%的人對川普有類似想法。
31%的可能選民中表示，辯論讓希拉蕊提高了當選的機會，16%的人認為川普獲利。
即使如此，辯論會對希拉蕊的支持度並未造成太大影響。調查顯示，42%的人支持希拉蕊，38%支持川普。在過去幾個星期中，希拉蕊對川普維持4到6個百分點的領先幅度。
如果把受訪範圍縮小到有收看辯論的可能選民，則希拉蕊是以44%支持度領先川普的39%。
哥倫比亞大學政治學教授葛林(Donald Green)分析，辯論會未對支持度產生太大影響的可能原因之一是，通常類似辯論會這種單一事件，必須在幾天後才能完全呈現影響。
